The moral of this short H&B Editor’s Hot Pick story is that if you’re in a state that permits suppressor use for hunting, there’s no better time for you invest in SilencerCo’s new Titanium Scythe-Ti suppressor. Did you know that silencers are currently legal in 42 states?

Tis true, and ATF approval times, depending on the state you live in, have been drastically reduced.

According to silencershop.com, “eForm 4 suppressor approvals are taking just days on average for both individual and ‘standardized trust’ submissions. These are historically fast approval times, which ATF refers to as ‘the new normal.’”

A Case For Hunting With Suppressed Rifles

Several years ago, my eyes and ears were opened on an industry hunt in the hog-rich state of Arkansas with the great Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat fame. The AR-platform rifles we hunted with were equipped with suppressors.

Oh man, what a joy it was shooting suppressed big-bores on wild boar and other pesky critters Wilson wanted us to cull from his ranch.

Years later, my appreciation for suppressed rifles grew exponentially when my first crack at a Montana bull—that happened to be smack in the middle of a herd of 90-plus cows and calves—hit high.

The spine-clipped bull fell, but I needed to send a quick follow-up round to the vitals, taking care to not hit another elk in the herd. What astonished me was that the herd barely moved an inch at the report of the first .308 Win round, which allowed me to settle the crosshairs for the final 300-yard blow on the 5x6.

Details Of The SilencerCo Scythe-Ti

A great can to consider is SilencerCo’s Scythe-Ti. The Scythe-Ti is the company’s first suppressor completely constructed from titanium. The Scythe-Ti is a fully welded, premium .30-caliber silencer that is lightweight (7.3 ounces) and short (6.16 inches), while still boasting impressive sound suppression.

The author took his first elk at the Jumping Horse ranch in Montana with a suppressed .308-chambered rifle. Hunting with suppressed rifles protects a hunter's hearing. Suppressed guns also reduce recoil and keep shooters from flinching, which improves overall accuracy. Because the report is less disruptive to the nearby game, follow-up shots, when needed, can be easily made.

This multi-caliber suppressor handles calibers ranging from .223 Rem/5.56 NATO on up to .300 RUM, and is intended for bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles.

MRSP is $1,174, and it ships with a new radial tool, a Bravo tool, a basic tool, a 5/8x24 titanium direct-thread mount and a .30-caliber aluminum Single-Port Anchor Brake.
