Springfield Unveils New Coyote Brown 1911 DS Prodigy Comp Pistols

There’s a new shade joining Springfield Armory’s 1911 DS Prodigy family of handguns; a model with a Coyote Brown Cerakote finish will soon be headed to gun shops.
The new Coyote Brown 1911 DS Prodigy Comp 9mm pistols are being offered in two barrel lengths, 5-inch and 4.25-inch. Both are integrally compensated, which reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise.
The pistol is essentially a 2011, retaining all the characteristics shooters love about the 1911 with the capacity and chambering that modern shooters demand.
Cerakote ceramic polymer finishes have become the industry standard for many, offering extreme corrosion and wear resistance unrivaled by other firearm finishes. This results in less maintenance and increased longevity for a firearm, which is important for a gun that rides in a holster all day strapped to a sweaty human.

“The 1911 DS Prodigy gives shooters a pistol with the appeal of the classic 1911, but one featuring enhanced double-stack magazine capacity and modern features,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s Vice President of Marketing. “These flat-shooting Coyote Brown Prodigy Comp pistols add the benefit of reduced muzzle flip and faster follow-up shots along with a highly popular color option.”
The Coyote Brown Cerakote finish on the slide and frame of these new 1911 DS Prodigy Comp handguns matches the guns’ Coyote Brown polymer grip modules that are mounted to a steel frame, paired nicely with accented black controls and a black DLC-coated match-grade bull barrel for increased accuracy and flatter shooting.
All models include Springfield’s integral compensator in the form of a discreet, single large port cut into the top of the slide and barrel. Gas from a fired round is directed through this port, which counteracts the force of muzzle rise and imparts less felt recoil to the shooter, which gives them greater control and better accuracy for follow-up shots. The pistols feature tritium front sights, which are positioned behind the compensator port, so they will not be obscured by vented gas at all.

The double-stack magazine ships with a 17- and 20-round magazine; there are 26-round magazines available separately, and 10-round magazines available for restricted states.
As for optics, the Prodigy Comp pistol slides are cut for Agency Optic System (AOS) plates, which also feature an integral rear sight. The guns ship with HEX Dragonfly-compatible plates and a cover plate; additional optic-specific mounting plates are available for other red dots.
