Bourbon Heritage Month 101
In case you didn’t know, Bourbon Heritage Month started in 2007, when the U.S. Senate declared September “National Bourbon Heritage Month.” Introduced by Kentucky Republican Senator Jim Bunning, the bill asks that anyone who appreciates bourbon celebrate that love with responsibility and respect throughout September.
Bill S. RES. 294 solidified the creation, the culture, and the craft of the bourbon industry as a proud chapter in the storybook of American history, and it reinforced a 1964 Act of Congress that declared bourbon “America’s Native Spirit.”
Since Hook & Barrel HQ is based out of the fine state of Texas, we’d like to take a moment to highlight TX Whiskey—an award-winning brand from Fort Worth with the largest whiskey distillery west of the Mississippi that has connected and inspired people through whiskey for nearly 15 years.
TX Whiskey has released various expressions through the years and below are some of the fan-favorite bourbons:
TX Straight Bourbon
TX Straight Bourbon has established itself as one of the only “truly Texas” spirits on the market at 90 proof. Flavors of fig, allspice, and brown sugar dance on the palate and the finish is balanced, smooth, and warm.
TX Straight Bourbon Barrel Proof Bourbon
The TX Straight Bourbon Barrel Proof Bourbon is the brand’s bourbon in a new version – uncut and straight from the barrel to experience the full flavors of Texas in their purest form. With flavors varying from each batch, notes of brown sugar, cinnamon, apple, and vanilla can be tasted.
TX Straight Bourbon Tawny Port Finish
The TX Straight Bourbon Tawny Port Finish brings a unique flavor profile with each sip. Because the bourbon rested in the casks for 10 years, it maintains rich hints from the port still within the oak. With a proof of 101.6, this bourbon heralds flavors of dark cherry, candied walnuts, rich caramel, and cheery Christmas spices.
TX Straight Bourbon PX Sherry Finish
The PX Sherry casks were constructed from the American White Oak species known as Quercus alba which delivers a lighter profile than other oak species. As a result, it’s one of the sweetest sherry wines on the market. At 101.6 proof, this libation offers a sweet and warming profile with hints of chocolate, baking spices, apricot, and maple.
