Mossberg has been busy. Leading up to and during SHOT Show 2025, the gunmaker released a slew of line extensions in almost every category in its catalog, from semi-auto shotguns and new versions of their venerate and expansive Model 500 and Model 590 lines, to new slug guns and even a couple new carbines.

Mossberg Updated 940 Pro Tactical Thunder Ranch

The semi-auto 940 line is definitely the tentpole of Mossberg’s new offerings. First up is the striking Mossberg Updated 940 Pro Tactical Thunder Ranch semi-auto shotgun. The original version of this special edition 12-gauge, 8-shot shotgun was released in January 2024, adding tactical features to the popular 940 semi-auto, along with a unique finish. So follows the new 940 Pro Tactical Thunder Ranch shotgun with a Cerakote Patriot Brown finish on the stock, forend, receiver, and barrel.

The receiver is optics-ready behind an 18.5-inch cylinder bore barrel topped with a red fiber-optic front sight.

The gas-operated gun, designed in conjunction with Thunder Ranch Director, Clint Smith, and the ranch’s staff, also features a drilled and tapped receiver, an oversized bolt release, a knurled and extended charging handle, an enlarged and beveled loading port, an elongated, pinch-free elevator, and a bright orange anodized follower in the extended magazine tube, along with other tactical features that bring it in line with features offered on Beretta and Benelli tactical shotguns.

To go along with the Thunder Range model, Mossberg has also released the new and decidedly tactical 940 Pro Tactical Professional Series 12-gauge, 8-shot autoloader. It’s based on the 940 Pro gas-operated semi-auto gas-pistol system. Internal parts feature a nickel-boron coating and other special finishes for increased wear resistance and easier cleaning. The receiver, barrel, and magazine tube feature a Tungsten polymer-ceramic Cerakote finish.

The shotgun’s receiver is optic-ready for direct mounting of micro red dots, and it’s also drilled and tapped for other optic mounts. Tactical features include an enlarged and beveled loading port, an elongated pinch-free elevator, and a bright orange anodized follower in an extended 7-round magazine tube.

Five models will be available out of the gate, including a Holosun Micro Dot Combo. Optional Cerakote finishes are also available.

Like all 940 Pro shotguns, the 940 Pro Tactical SPX has corrosion-resistant internal parts and finishes including nickel boron-coated gas piston, magazine tube, hammer, and sear. Standard features of the 940 Pro platform include an optic-ready receiver for direct mounting of microdot optics with an RMSc footprint.

Mossberg 590R standoff

Another addition to the ever-growing Model 590 family is the brand-new Mossberg 590R and 590RM shotguns — the big deal with these models is that they feature an AR-style rotary safety selector instead of the signature Mossberg top-tang safety switch. The 590R and 590RM take it a step further by including AR-style ergonomics as well, along with new features for the line, like a redesigned, user-serviceable forend, and an integrated barrel and heat shield, in addition to the new ambidextrous, rotary safety selector. There are four models available, including two standard pumps and the two RM models that use 590M detachable 12-gauge double-stack magazines.
