An After-Action Report From Beretta’s SHOT Show 2025 Range Day

Under the bright Nevada sun at the Pro Gun Club in Boulder City, Beretta’s SHOT Show 2025 Range Day unfolded with the kind of energy and excitement that only the days leading up to the show can bring. The desert backdrop, peppered with the sounds of live fire and the scent of burnt powder, set the stage for an exclusive first look at Beretta’s latest and greatest firearms.

Hook & Barrel Goes Full Beretta

For those attending this invite-only event, it proved to be the ultimate hands-on experience, a chance to put the most anticipated Beretta releases, and even some blasts from the past, through their paces. Having spent my fair share of time behind the trigger of Berettas, both old and new, I couldn't wait to see what they had in store this year. And they did not disappoint.

Beretta's latest lineup had something for everyone, from enhanced pistols geared towards competition, to precision rifles and competition-ready shotguns. After a morning introduction, one too many coffees, and a safety briefing, it was go time.

Running The Beretta 20X Bobcat

First up was the 20X Bobcat, a modernized tribute to Beretta's legendary pocket pistols. Chambered in .22 LR, this little gun may look unassuming, but don't let its size fool you. The tip-up barrel design, a Beretta signature, makes for effortless loading, especially for shooters struggling with traditional slide manipulation. It also proved to be an absolute blast on the range, offering smooth shooting, low recoil, and impressive accuracy for such a compact package. Whether you're looking for a discreet concealed carry option or a fun little plinkster, the 20X Bobcat is back in a big way.

Feeling The New APX A1 Compact Tactical Heat

Next up was the APX A1 Compact Tactical and its full-sized counterpart, the APX A1 Tactical. Both variants are now available in FDE, or what otherwise became jokingly referred to as “peanut butter color” as the madness of SHOT Show began to get to us all. These two models appeared duty-ready with its modular design, suppressor-height sights, and a threaded barrel for those looking to run them suppressed. The texturing on the grip locked into my hand like a firm handshake but wasn’t overly aggressive as to cut into my hand and become uncomfortable. The trigger pull was clean and crisp, and the follow-up shots felt intuitive. Running controlled pairs and quick target transitions was effortless, proving that these APX models are built for serious shooters.

Color Me Awesome With Beretta’s New 92XI Foreign Combat Series

Beretta 92XI Foreign Combat Series

For the Beretta fanboys out there, you’ll be happy to hear there has been a new launch within the classic 92 series. The 92XI Foreign Combat Series was a favorite amongst the crowd, with several pattern options available—Vegetato, Splinter, Flecktarn, and Frogskin. The move to a single-action-only (SAO) trigger gave this gun an incredibly light and predictable break, making accurate shots a breeze. The new frame-mounted safety also provided 1911-style ergonomics, making it feel both familiar and refreshed at the same time. With its all-metal construction and Beretta’s renowned durability, this is the kind of sidearm that makes you want to run through magazines just for the sheer fun of it.

Range Time With The Beretta 80X Cheetah

Beretta 80X Cheetah

Serving up yet another nod to the past, Beretta launched two variations of the 80X Cheetah, in Gray Limited Edition and Tactical Urban, blending classic styling with modern performance. Chambered in .380 ACP, these pistols are smooth shooters with minimal recoil that doesn’t get in the way of accuracy or follow-up shots. The limited-edition gray finish gives it a sleek, futuristic look, while the Tactical Urban variant leans into a more mission-ready tactical aesthetic. These updated Cheetahs would be a great fit for concealed carry, range use, or simply as new additions to your collection.

Whether the competition-inspired Corsa, the performance-driven Gara, or the visually distinct Sabbia with its desert-colored finish, each model shows that Beretta is still committed to refining and evolving a timeless platform for the new generation of shooters. These models serve various purposes, from precision-focused competitive shooting to stylish everyday carry, ensuring each shooter can find a 92XI that fits their unique needs.

This one is a no-brainer if you're looking for a rifle that will push your precision skills without spending your life savings on ammunition. Last but certainly not least was the 688 Performance Sporting Shotgun. If Beretta knows one thing, it's how to build a top-tier shotgun, and the 688 is no exception. Designed with the competitive shooter in mind, this over-and-under beauty features Beretta's B-Fast stock system, allowing for a custom fit that makes it feel like an extension of your body.
