Get To Know Fitness Entrepreneur Whitney Johns Who Has Established Herself As A One-Woman Empire

H&B: Tell us about growing up in Idaho.

Whitney Johns: I grew up in Idaho, and we spent summers in Cascade, Idaho, in the mountains. We did a lot of hiking, fishing, and huckleberry picking. My dad was an outdoorsman and horseman. I grew up outdoors—it was a big part of my upbringing.

I was very physically active, but I was extremely uncoordinated. So, I started lifting weights. I had all this athletic energy and wanted a way to express it. I got super addicted to lifting at 16. I loved that I had the power to shape my body, my mind, and my life. And that’s what started my career in fitness. The wellness piece was a huge part of my healing. I had chronic pain, migraines, and some mental health struggles. That’s why I fell in love with fitness and nutrition because it turned my life around in terms of my quality of living. It really did save my life.

H&B: How did you go from being a 16-year-old Idaho teen to being a fitness professional?

Whitney Johns: It stemmed from seeing that I had the power to fix my own issues. I learned to put myself in uncomfortable positions, and that discomfort is where growth happens.

I was always challenging myself, so I got into bodybuilding. I got my pro card in the WBFF (World Beauty Fitness & Fashion), and it taught me so much about my body and helped build my confidence. Then in 2023, one of my agents reached out about an opportunity to compete in an international influencer boxing tournament. I’d always loved boxing and kickboxing as a workout. It’s one of the best total body workouts you can do. It was a great opportunity and great exposure, and I was at that point in my life where I was ready for the next mountain to climb. My first fight was at Wembley Arena in front of 13,000 people. It was a really cool thing to do.

H&B: What’s your personal fitness routine?

Whitney Johns: I am a big believer in resistance training at least three times a week. I lift weights three days a week, and I box at least once a week doing mitt work and back work. I love hot yoga. I like to mix it up, so I’ll do a Pilates class or go on a hike. I like to do as many outdoor workouts as I can. It’s so good for your mental health too.

H&B: You’re also passionate about nutrition. What is your personal nutrition plan, and how do you translate that to your clients?

Whitney Johns: I respond best to a less inflammatory diet. It’s about avoiding processed foods as much as possible and focusing on whole foods. It’s about nourishing your gut. I’m big on protein—so many of my female clients aren’t getting the protein they need. I’m a big meat eater. But you want to know where your food comes from. You want a clean, healthy source.

H&B: How did you get into the supplement space?

Whitney Johns: I was always a service-based company with my coaching business and my fitness programs. I saw a space in the fitness industry where the gap needed to be closed in holistic health and wellness as a way of supporting the fitness journey rather than just shortcuts to losing weight or focusing solely on the aesthetic. My company is about supporting hormone health, gut health, and brain health. When I got into products, I saw a need in the market for products to support the holistic wellness of my clients. I partnered with Healthy Extracts, a company with existing formulations that I really liked. They had a lot of clinical research backing the efficacy of their products. I was able to come in and put together my own formulations, working with their trusted formulators. It’s been a major learning curve and an adventure getting into the e-commerce world and creating products. But it’s also been a fun, new challenge.

H&B: You mentioned hunting growing up. Do you ever hunt these days?

Whitney Johns: My fiancé (professional fighter Chris Camozzi) and I have been talking lately about wanting to go on a hunt. I’m actually learning how to shoot a bow—shout out Cutter Stabilizers. Chris and I love to go to shooting ranges, and when I lived in LA, I trained at Taran Tactical occasionally. I’d love to get an actual hunt on the books. But right now, we’re enjoying the target practice.

H&B: You’ve also been a fitness model. What’s your most memorable shoot?

Whitney Johns: I recently shot my 18th cover. I was fitness modeling forever, and I would get a publication here and there. It wasn’t until I was 35 that I landed my first cover. And I’ve gotten 17 more since then. I tell people, don’t give up on your dreams, keep at it. Don’t let age limit you.

H&B: You hit a million followers on Instagram. How has social media been a part of your success?

Whitney Johns: It was a huge accomplishment. Just years of effort and being consistent. No matter what industry you’re in, social media is part of the deal. You have to have a presence. But you have to provide value to your followers. It’s really your billboard for your business. It’s a necessary part of marketing. But you want your message to resonate with people.

H&B: What are your top tips for people wanting to improve their health and wellness?

Whitney Johns: First, prioritize your sleep and the quality of your sleep, because that’s where everything starts. Get your bloodwork done regularly, so you can improve your gut and hormone health. Focus on whole foods that are high in protein. And find your fit. Find what is fun and exciting and brings you joy. Find a way to move your body that you enjoy. It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s plan for you, but I do think that fundamental strength training is important.

H&B: When you’re not working/coaching what do you like to do?

Whitney Johns: I’ve been getting into cooking. I’ve been stepping into my domesticated self. I love hiking with my dog Sofia (an Australian Husky). And Chris and I love to travel. I think travel is one of the most valuable gifts you can give yourself. We got engaged in the Dominican Republic, which is beautiful. We did a pack trip in Wyoming. We went horseback riding every day and fly fishing. It was so good for the soul.

H&B: Describe your perfect day.

Whitney Johns: Sleeping in. Doing an outdoor workout. Getting out in the sunshine. Then going to the spa for a spa day. Then getting dressed up and going to dinner with my fiancé. Having quality time with my loves.
