Each year, the fishing industry gathers in Orlando, Florida for ICAST – the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades – where new products are introduced, and business relationships are strengthened. It’s not open to the public, but savvy anglers across the country and across the globe await the gear introductions to see what they’ll be fishing in the coming years, and to try to get a jump start on the local competition. The 2024 iteration of ICAST reflected the continued innovation that anglers demand. Here are 20 products that caught our eye at ICAST this year:
Rapala PXR Jowler 127
This elongated, three-hooked topwater contributed to a win in a Bassmaster Elite Series tournament for South Carolina’s Patrick Walters before it was officially introduced. It casts a mile, walks easily and the distinctive cupped mouth contributes to both the action and the fish-attracting sounds. So too does an internal knocker that calls bass up.
Abu-Garcia Revo X BFS Casting Reels
Abu Garcia came to ICAST to show they have gone all-in on casting reels that supplant spinning reels, providing more direct power and less line twist. The Revo X BFS weighs 7.2 ounces and comes with a 7.3:1 gear ratio, and is tuned to cast ultralight lures long distances.
Great Lakes Finesse Juvy Craw Tube
Smallmouths love protein-packed crawfish, and a tube is one of the best ways to imitate them, but this mini package does it better than any other. Whether you’re dragging it or cracking it off the bottom, brown bass can’t resist the Juvy Craw Tube.
Daiwa Ardito Jitte Telescopic Travel Rods
For decades, travel rods and particularly telescopic models have been afterthoughts for major rod manufacturers, but in the Jitte – available in both casting and spinning versions – Daiwa has created a premium product that’s not just portable, but manageable and functional.
St. Croix Physyx Series Rods
The newest Made in the USA premium sticks from St. Croix come in both casting and spinning models tailored to a wide range of applications and include silicon carbine guides, custom reel seats, and carbon fiber handles that combine maximum sensitivity with space-age looks.
Lowrance Eagle Eye
Forward-facing sonar is all the rage, but it’s not within the budget of many anglers. Lowrance has solved that problem with the Eagle Eye, which combines CHIRP, DownScan, and mapping all in one transducer to make operation simpler, A 9-inch screen provides lots of real estate for simultaneous multiple functions.
Buckeye Freestyle Swimbait Jighead
Anglers needing a free-swinging treble hook to their soft plastic swimbaits must look at Buckeye’s Freestyle, which comes in multiple colors and sizes from 1/8 ounce to ¾ ounce. Any swimbait can be attached via a swinging screwlock, which provides even more action to these ultra-effective lures.
Seaguar Pounce Fluorocarbon Leader
Anglers who use a main line consisting of braid with a relatively short fluorocarbon leader will love Seaguar’s Pounce, a premium fluoro that comes in 25-yard spools and is both nearly invisible and exceptionally abrasion-resistant while retaining minimal memory after extended use.
Berkley PowerBait Unrigged CullShad Swimbait
Berkley’s pre-rigged CullShad, introduced last year, set the big bait world on its ear with max action and durability. This version combines the same honeycomb technology and natural swimming action, but allows anglers to rig it with the hook of their choice, ideal for heavy cover situations where a dangling treble might not be ideal.
Penn Battle IV Spinning Reels
The name Penn is synonymous with saltwater excellence worldwide, and this newest generation of their Battle series that made its debut at ICAST is bulletproof, with a full metal body, carbon fiber drag, and sealed construction. They’re available in a wide range of sizes able to tackle the smallest sea creatures up to the fish of a lifetime.
Bajio Sigs Sunglasses
For anglers with medium-sized faces, the Sigs provide full coverage without being bulky or oversized. They include Bajio’s patent-pending blue light-blocking technology and come in four frame colors and seven lens colors, as well as prescription models.
Costa del Mar Grand Catalina Sunglasses
The retro styling of Costa’s new award-winning glasses will draw you in, but it’s the performance that’ll win you over. These classic aviators with removable side shields manage sweat and absorb 100% of UV light, so all that you have to do is focus on fishing.
HUK Next Level Long Sleeve Shirt
This is the perfect boat-to-bar shirt, a button-down crafted of a blend of cotton and polyester, providing UPF 30+ coverage and features galore. They include breathable four-way stretch material, a hidden sunglasses wipe and a button collar that won’t flap in your face on long boat rides.
BKK OCD Tackle Storage
If you’re the type of angler who is constantly losing terminal tackle like hooks, swivels, and beads, this premium box with a waterproof gasket and fully adjustable compartments will allow you to keep everything safe and organized. There’s even a version that comes fully stocked with some of BKK’s ultra-sharp hooks.
Quantum Strive Inshore Spinning Reel
If you’re looking for a reel that punches above its weight, try this reasonably priced model from the revived Quantum brand. It comes in six sizes, all of which have a high-strength aluminum frame and sealed body and drag to minimize corrosion and maximize longevity.
Sunline Siglon PE AMZ
Sunline brought their newest eight-strand braid to ICAST this year and it certainly does not disappoint. This line maintains its slickness, sensitivity, and color longer than most of the competition, which means you get more bang for your buck. It comes in dark green or bright orange, in sizes from 10 to 60-pound test, and both filler and 660-yard spools.
Simms Tailwind Rod & Reel Vault
Anglers who travel to fish will love this vault, which earns its name by protecting your gear, whether it’s in the overhead compartment of a plane or under the seat of your truck. It’s both light and durable and allows even the gear hog fly angler to pack plenty for a trip to the local river or around the globe.
AFTCO Women’s Armorloft Zip Hoodie
Whether worn as an outermost layer or as part of a system, this hyper-grid fleece zip-up hoodie will keep female anglers warm, no matter how quickly the mercury drops. It has four-way stretch for comfort and is water-repellent, while also looking fashionable in the Oak colorway.
Shimano Poison Adrena Baitcasting Rods
Shimano’s flagship rod incorporates the best of the best when it comes to components – including monocoque handles and proprietary Ci4+ reel seats – and they’re feather-light, but what really makes them stand out is their distinctive combination of technique-specific actions and JDM styling.
Xpece One Waterproof Drone
Drones have become the overhead photographic source for content creators and weekend anglers alike, but until now they’ve been limited by fragility that makes them victims of the elements. This new “plug and play” model to make its debut at ICAST 2024 is easy to control, waterproof, saltwater-safe, and even floats in case of unexpected accidents.
