Savage Arms has gone back to its roots and jumped back into the lever-action market with the Revel DLX. No, they’ve not resurrected the Model 99; they’ve released a high-quality, affordable rimfire rifle that you have to shoot to truly appreciate how nice it really is. Until you get the opportunity, read on and take my word for it.
For this project, Savage kept all of the traditional stylings of a lever-action rifle while also bringing it into the 21st century. The Turkish walnut stock has some neat contouring and holes that eliminate weight, look neat, and help with gripping the forend.

While most rimfire lever actions on the market today have straight grips, the Revel DLX has a pistol grip with texturing in the side panels. As someone who is a fan of pistol grips, this was a welcome design feature. An enlarged loop makes it easy for your hand to get into the lever quickly and work the action even if you have big hands or are wearing gloves. And while there’s never much recoil from .22 LR, the rubber buttpad is a nice touch.
The Savage Revel DLX Is Out-Of-The-Box Ready

Working the lever showcases the action’s buttery smooth operation even right out of the box. The gun I shot was brand new, but the action worked like a gun that had already been broken in, making for a very nice shooting experience. There was no hesitation or temporary binding that can sometimes be encountered in a new lever action. I was able to relax and enjoy my time shooting without having to worry about running the action.

In addition to adjustable iron sights, the aluminum receiver is drilled and tapped so that you can mount the optic of your choice on it. The rifle is incredibly accurate with just the iron sights, though. I was able to pick off a row of empty shotshell hulls in quick succession thanks to the smooth action, quality sights and crisp trigger break.
Because it’s 2025 and suppressors are more affordable than ever, gun barrels ought to come threaded right from the factory. While there’s a Revel model without a threaded barrel available if that’s what you really want, the Revel DLX’s 18-inch black Cerakote finished barrel is threaded 1/2x28 TPI. Shooting this gun suppressed is an absolute joy. Depending on the suppressor you use, it is possible to load the 12-round magazine tube with the can still attached. (Shout-out to the Savage AccuCan!)

Benefits Of The Takedown Savage Revel DLX
Perhaps coolest of all is that the Revel DLX is a takedown rifle. We all know how dirty rimfire ammo is, especially when using a suppressor, so cleaning is of utmost importance. This is easily accomplished by pushing out two pins (much like the takedown on an AR), opening the lever and pulling the two halves of the gun apart. In addition to cleaning ease, this also makes the rifle easy to stow in a backpack or even behind the seat of a UTV.

Whether you’re new to levers or you’re looking to add to your collection, the Savage Arms Revel DLX is one that should definitely be on your radar. Once you work the lever and feel the smooth action and crisp trigger, you’ll be hard-pressed not to bring one home with you.
The Bottom Line Score Of The Savage Revel DLX .22
The “H&B Bottom Line” is a rating system based on seven criteria. Each category is worth five points (or ampersands) for a maximum total score of 35.

ERGOS & HANDLING &&&&
The rifle is well balanced, and the pistol grip makes it easy to handle and maneuver. The loop is oversized for fast operation.
RECOIL &&&&&
Since it’s a .22 LR rifle, recoil is minimal at best. If you add a suppressor to the end of the threaded barrel, it all but disappears.
ACTION and RELOADING &&&&&
Even with all the moving parts of a lever-action rifle, the action itself was smooth, and loading the tube magazine was easy.
SIGHT MOUNTING EASE &&&&&
The receiver comes drilled and tapped for easy attachment of the sight of your choice.
INTENDED PURPOSE &&&&&
Whether you’re teaching a new shooter, having fun on the range or hunting small game, the Revel can do it all with ease.
OVERALL VERSATILITY &&&&&
The threaded barrel and quick takedown feature make the Revel easily adaptable to a variety of situations and setups.
VALUE-PRICE POINT &&&&&
It is priced in line with other similar rifles on the market. Overall quality makes it worth every penny.
